Dr. Weng Huainan is a multifaceted scholar with a focus on the cross-cultural communication of Chinese intellectual history, particularly through the lens of material culture. He holds a doctorate in literature and boasts a well-rounded career encompassing editing and teaching (as an adjunct professor) experiences. He currently serves as director of the Library and Information Department at the National Museum of China, director of Cultural Museums and Libraries Committee of the Library Society of China, and director of the Historical Materialism Society of China. Dr. Weng has led over 20 research projects that have been approved by central leadership. He has actively participated in prestigious projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, including “Chinese Museums: Development, Challenges, and Solutions”. He oversaw the publication of Focus on China and Impression of China and edited books like Documentary of the Return of Chinese Artifacts from Overseas Locations. Dr. Weng have also participated in the planning and scripting writing of major documentaries for CCTV, including The Long March and National Memory: Return of Lost National Treasures. At the ICOM General Conference Prague 2022, he delivered speeches on the five cultural belts of China and the development trend of museums in the new era.
