Zhang Xudong
张旭东

He is the director of the editorial board and the International Academic Committee of Translation of Library of China’s Modern and Contemporary Cultural Classics. Born in 1965 in Beijing, he graduated from the Chinese Department, Peking University, in 1986. In 1995, he received a doctor’s degree from the Department of Literature, Duke University and became the professor of the Department of Comparative Literature and the Department of East Asian Studies, New York University, as well as the director of East Asia Department, in 2005. In addition, he was also a visiting professor at Peking University, East China Normal University and University of Tokyo. On July 1st, 2011, he was named the President of the Advanced Research Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences at Chongqing University.

He has published many monographs, in English and Chinese, on cultural studies, literary theory, and modernism and post-modernism research, including Chinese Modernism in the Reform Era (English), The Trace of Criticism: Cultural Theory and Cultural Criticism, Cultural Identity in the Era of Globalization: Historical Criticism of Western “Universalism” Discourse, The Era of Dialogue Enlightenment, New York Letters, The Order of Fantasy —— Critical Theory and the Discourse of Modern Chinese Literature, and Post-Socialism and Cultural Politics (English).
