This is China's first aesthetic education book series designed for parent-child reading. It is a series of ten books, each of which is dedicated to one illustrious painters. The series is divided into two volumes, one for Chinese artists and one for Western artists. The Chinese volume covers five painters of five dynasties, namely Gu Kaizhi (344 – 406) of the East Jin Dynasty, Emperor Huizong (born Zhao Ji, 1082 – 1135) of the Song Dynasty, Zhao Mengfu (1254 – 1322) of the Yuan Dynasty, Wen Zhengming (1470 – 1559) of the Ming Dynasty, and Bada Shanren (born Zhu Da, 1626 – 1705) a scion of the imperial Ming family who took refuge in art and Buddhism after the foundation of the Qing Dynasty. The volume of Western painters covers Leonardo da Vinci (1452 – 1519), Piet Mondrian (1872 – 1944), Pablo Picasso (1881 – 1973), Vincent van Gogh (1853 – 1890) and Andy Warhol (1928 – 1987). With a wealth of informative photographs and easy-to-follow language, the series seeks to explore different concepts and diverse themes in Chinese and Western art.
