Taking Shen Congwen's pioneering research on the history of ancient Chinese costumes as the starting point, the book retraces his initial explorations on costume research, systemically sums up the results the empirical studies on costume archaeology, and reviews the evolution and development of Chinese textile relics for more than 3,000 years from the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, the Warring States period, the Han Dynasty, the Tang Dynasty, the Song Dynasty, to the Yuan Dynasty and the Ming Dynasty, as well as new discoveries made in the textile archaeological research. More than 300 precious pictures clearly present the textile archaeological excavation site, the original appearance of the unearthed cultural relics and the restored ones, reflecting the brilliant achievements of Chinese textiles that have been carried out for thousands of years and the splendid dress culture.
