Introduction

Xinjiang is a magical place. It has been a top destination for explorers and outdoor enthusiasts, including Paul Pelliot, Marc Aurel Stein, Nikolay Przhevalsky and Sven Hedin, who came to Xinjiang to explore unknown areas and fill the empty spaces on its map. Today, although there are few places in Xinjiang that have not been reached by human footprints, there are still many questions about Xinjiang waiting to be answered. For example, what kind of animals and plants are there? Where do they live? How many are there? What is their living status? Can they coexist with human beings? One of the most common purposes of nowadays’ expeditions in Xinjiang is to answer these questions. This book is a condensation of the research results of the Wilderness of Xinjiang Team over the past several years and contains more than 1,100 pictures of representative natural landscapes and more than 400 common and representative animals and plants in Xinjiang, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects, plants and fungi. These pictures and natural observation stories showcase a different perspective of the beautiful Xinjiang.
