Introduction
Where does intelligence come from? It not only comes from the brain, but is also closely related to the human body. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now moving from a virtual presence to real applications, as manifested in humanoid robots, self-driving cars, smart home products … The brain of AI needs to be put into different bodies to better perceive everything in the world. When perception turns into cognition, and cognition leads to action, the final result is embodied intelligence. Embodied intelligence is an emerging area in AI that focuses on creating intelligent systems or machines capable of real-time environmental interaction through sensing and physical engagement with their surroundings. It can be simply understood as a variety of robots in different forms that are allowed to perform a variety of tasks in real physical environments to complete the evolutionary process of AI. This book systematically introduces the technical principles, application cases, development opportunities, and challenges of embodied intelligence, and seeks to present readers with a blueprint for the future of human-machine symbiosis.
