From July 25 to 28, 2025, the 33rd National Book Trade Fair was held in Chongqing under the theme “A Bibliophilic China: The Beauty of Reading.” Hu Heping, Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the CPC in charge of its day-to-day work, visited the China Publishing Group exhibition area. He was accompanied by Chang Bo, President of China Publishing Group Co., Ltd., and Zang Yongqing, Vice President of China Publishing & Media Holdings Co., Ltd., who introduced the Group’s participation in the fair. China Publishing Group brought together its publishing institutions representing the “People’s,” “China,” “Xinhua,” and time-honored cultural brands, showcasing nearly 4,000 titles and approximately 30,000 copies of books.

The books on display covered a wide range of genres and subjects. Featured titles included major publications with distinctive themes, such as Revitalization Library (I–III), Encyclopedia of China (Third Edition), and the Studies on the Great Founding Spirit of the CPC Series. The exhibition also featured works highlighting the richness of traditional Chinese culture, including Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Seven-Color Annotated Edition, 3 vols.) and Exploring China Through Chinese Idioms. Practical reference works, including Dictionary of Classical Chinese (3rd Edition) and Oxford Intermediate Learner’s English-Chinese Dictionary (6th Edition), provided useful resources for academic research. Books commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression included Victory and Peace and China Before the July 7th Incident (1931–1937), encouraging readers to remember history and never forget the national humiliation. The exhibition also featured literary and historical classics, such as the revised and collated edition of History of the Southern Dynasties (Paperback), part of the Twenty-Four Histories, as well as recent literary highlights including To the Mountains We Belong and One-day Celebrity.

During the fair, the 16th Readers’ Conference, a major reading-promotion event of the 33rd National Book Trade Fair, opened at Chongqing Library. Under the guidance of the National Press and Publication Administration, the Readers’ Conference is a nationwide reading initiative initiated by China Publishing Group. With the principle of “Readers First, Enjoy Reading,” it brings together renowned writers and scholars and uses publishing as a bridge to bring the joy of reading to a wider audience. This year’s event was jointly hosted by China Publishing Group and the Publicity Department of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee under the theme “A Bibliophilic China: The Beauty of Reading.” Writers and scholars Chen Jin, Li Jingze, A Lai, Liu Shi, Zhang Zhe, Zhu Yong, Zhao Dongmei, Yang Yu, Li Haichao, Liu Chuxin, Li Pan, and Zhao Jian were invited to attend. Around two million readers participated online or in person, making the event a major celebration of reading.
