Introduction

Written by the management team of the outpatient department (OPD) in Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, the book focuses on the innovation in OPD management in China’s public hospitals. The framework applied in the book originates from the investigation, health policy research projects and management practices carried out in recent years by Ruijin Hospital (to which Shanghai Medical Quality Control Management Center is attached). Ruijin Hospital is impressive in OPD management and studies. It has built a sound management system with distinct Ruijin features, especially in the management of multi-disciplinary diagnosis & treat and chronic diseases, which is a representative case in the OPD reform in Shanghai and even across the country. The eight-chapter book reviews the theories and approaches of OPD management at home and abroad and introduces the philosophy and typical cases of OPD management in public hospitals. By reproducing the OPD process, it presents in an all-round way the implementation of OPD management in public hospitals. In addition, the book also explores the theory of comprehensive OPD management based on actual practices. It both aims at improving the implementation of the OPD management and concludes the universal significance of Ruijin pattern.
