A collection of the author’s study results for over three decades, it is an enlightening and readable summary of domestic research on the history of Chinese imperial examination.
The book chronicles related figures, events, activities and ideologies at each stage of throughout the development of imperial examination. It both narrates the overall history and focuses on the system operations and ideological evolution. The narration pays attention to the interaction and mutual dependence between people and the system.
The first to third chapter are revised and enlarged by Liu Haifeng, while the four to six chapter are re-written by Li Bin.
