Introduction
The third excavation of Pit 1 of the Terra Cotta Warriors in the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor began in 2009, with Xu Weihong leading the preliminary work. This excavation, which lasted for more than ten years, adopted a model of “simultaneous preservation, excavation and exhibition” to better tell the stories to the public. Hence this book was created as a popular social and science book on the history of the Qin Dynasty. Having seen the Terra cotta Warriors, one must also understand them, strengthening the foundation of Chinese cultural heritage. Based on the author’s over 30 years of archaeological experience in the Qin and Han Dynasties, this book takes this excavation as its focus. Through documenting archaeological methods, research and reasoning, it guides the public to correctly interpret the historical information contained in the Terra Cotta Warriors, understand the true nature of the history of the Qin Empire, and uncover the timeline that spans thousands of years.
