Introduction
Legislation in China: Explorations and Achievements consists of an introduction and seven chapters. The introduction discusses the relationship between legislation and the comprehensive advancement of law-based governance, as well as the connection between good laws and good governance, briefly outlining the basic requirements for good laws. The seven chapters are divided according to China’s legislative development stages: 1. Legislation in the Early Days of the People’s Republic of China; 2. Legislation in the Early Period of the 1954 Constitution; 3. The Stage of Setbacks and Damage to Legislation; 4. Legislation from Exploration to Comprehensive Advancement during Reform and Opening-Up; 5. Legislation to Adapt to the Establishment of a Market Economy System; 6. Legislation to Form a Socialist Legal System with Chinese Characteristics on Schedule; 7. New Developments in Legislation in the New Era. Each chapter introduces the historical background, legislative status, and major achievements of its period. It focuses on the formulation of the Common Program and the 1954 Constitution, as well as subsequent revisions and amendments to the Constitution and the main issues discussed during these processes. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and based on authoritative materials, this book adopts a factual approach to comb through and review the tortuous journey, great achievements, and rich experience of China’s legislation since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It aims to reflect, from the perspective of legislation, the profound changes brought about by the Party’s leadership in building the country.
