Introduction
The Four Masters of the Yuan Dynasty, namely Huang Gongwang, Wu Zhen, Ni Zan, and Wang Meng, were the four great painters of the mid to late Yuan Dynasty. They are known for their landscape paintings, each having a unique style, which exerted a profound influence on future generations. Although the painting styles of the Four Masters of the Yuan were distinct, they all developed from the works of Dong Yuan of the Five Dynasties and Ju Ran of the Northern Song Dynasty, emphasizing brushwork and artistic conception, combining calligraphy and poetry in their paintings. This became the mainstream of landscape painting in the Yuan Dynasty and greatly influenced the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Painting Collection of Rongbaozhai - Selected Works of the Four Masters of the Yuan Dynasty includes important representative works of the Four Masters—Huang Gongwang, Wu Zhen, Ni Zan, and Wang Meng. The Chinese paintings they created provide excellent models for the study and learning of Chinese painting in later generations. Their artworks are still widely loved and revered by painting enthusiasts today. This selected collection is edited in accordance with the traditional style of painting catalogs, presenting an excellent painting lineage to a wide audience.
