Introduction
Rongbaozhai Painting Collection 261 - Part of Shilu's Landscape Paintings includes over 50 landscape works by Mr. Shi Lu. Shi Lu studied at the Eastern Fine Arts College in Chengdu in his early years, and in 1940 he went to Yan'an to attend the Shanbei Public School, engaging in printmaking, later specializing in Chinese painting. He is skilled in portraying figures, landscapes, flowers, and birds. His early painting style leaned towards realism, characterized by firm and rigorous brushwork, often focusing on revolutionary themes; in his later works, his style became bold and vigorous, frequently featuring Mount Hua and lotus flowers, with a free and powerful brush technique, often described as 'dark, heavy, strange, and wild.' Mr. Shi Lu's landscape paintings vividly depict the misty waters and clouds of the Northwest, the imposing Loess Plateau, the steep and perilous Mount Hua, the winding Yellow River, and the long stretch of the Great Wall, all of which are his favorite subjects.
