Introduction
The Study of Xie Wuliang's Calligraphy, is divided into two volumes, a large octavo hardcover edition, with a print run of 4,000 copies. Xie Wuliang (1884–1964), originally named Meng, also known as Dacheng, Cheng, and Chen, was given the courtesy name Zhongqing and the art name Xifan. He had a pseudonym Su'an, which he later changed to Wuliang. He was from Lezhi, Sichuan Province. He authored more than thirty academic works, including History of Chinese Philosophy, History of Chinese Literature, Research on Ancient Political Thought, and Studies on Ancient China's Land System, published by Zhonghua Book Company and Commercial Press. He was well-versed in academia, poetry, prose, and calligraphy. In 1999, he was recognized as one of the top ten calligraphers of the twentieth century. This book is a comprehensive exploration and compilation in the field of calligraphy art. The book is about 800 pages long and gathers over three hundred of Mr. Xie's excellent works from over the years (from a letter to Deng Shenghou in 1906 when he was 23 years old to 'The Harmony of Dharma Sea' inscription in 1963 when he was 80. Covering nearly sixty years, the book almost encompasses Mr. Wuliang's entire artistic career.
