Introduction
This book is the first management work by Mr. Su Jingshi, former Chairman and CEO of YumChina. Mr. Su took over KFC China in 1989, when there were only four stores in the Chinese mainland. Over the next 26 years, he remained at the helm, building a local team, growing KFC, introducing Pizza Hut, creating a Chinese fast food brand—Dongfang Jibai, and acquiring Little Sheep, China’s leading hot pot at the time. Although only a Chinese division, YumChina held significant influence within the Yum! Brands group. When Su retired in 2015, KFC had more than 5,000 stores in China, and Pizza Hut, about 2,000 stores. Mr. Su was known as the “godfather of fast food in China”. In the past 26 years, Su and YumChina under his leadership have witnessed the great opportunities brought about by China’s reform and opening-up, and enjoyed the benefits of keeping pace with the times. However, at the same time, they have also experienced the challenges that multinational corporations face. He created one industry “miracle” after another, while also leaving behind “regrets” worthy of reflection and reference. This is the first time he has put his management insights into a book. In this book, he also speaks openly for the first time about two widely debated topics, namely the founding of the original brand Dongfang Jibai and the acquisition of Little Sheep Hot Pot, which hold precious referential value.
