Introduction
Donkeys have played a vital role in the development of human civilization. The Silk Road’s cultural landscape is both fundamentally unified and remarkably diverse. Although certain parts appear fragmented, the overall cultural development along the Silk Road remained unbroken. This continuity owes much to the spirit of commerce and relentless flow of cultural exchange along the Silk Road. Viewed from a global historical perspective, the spread of domestic donkeys along the Silk Road vividly illustrates the essence of human civilization, embodying the idea that “All Civilizations Can Appreciate Each Other’s Beauty While Valuing Their Own and Achieve Common Development” The Silk Road can thus be seen as an expansive cultural arena that weaves together diverse civilizations into a cohesive whole. This calls on scholars to re-examine the significance and content of Silk Road culture within its historical context. It is from this perspective that this book seeks to explore the cultural exchange and interaction among different civilizations along the Silk Road through the lens of domestic donkey.
