To promote Sino-Russian cultural exchange, 44 translated works were presented at a forum held by the China Written Works Copyright Society and the Russian Translation Institute at the Beijing International Book Fair on Friday.

Among the 44 works, 18 are Chinese works translated into Russian, including The Family by novelist Ba Jin, while the remaining are Russian to Chinese works translated as part of a Sino-Russian translation and publication project.

In 2013, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and the Federal Agency on Press and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation signed an agreement for both countries to translate no less than 50 classic works over a period of six years.

By the first half of 2016, 17 Chinese works have been translated into Russian, including Lao She's Cat Country, while 23 Russian classics have made their way to China, such as Demons by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.

"Most of us are familiar with Russian classical works but know little about the country's modern literature. The publication of modern Russian works is sure to play an important role in enriching modern Chinese literature," Zhang Hongbo, director general of the China Written Copyright Society, said.

In addition, the forum also launched International Publishing Weekly, a Chinese publication which collects literature reviews and translator notes about translated works. At the forum, representatives announced that a Russian version is also under way.
