BIBF Opened in Creative and Fresh Air

On August 26th, The 22nd Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF) was opened in China International Exhibition Center (the new one in Shunyi), presented by publishers from 82 countries and regions with over 200,000 titles of books.

The atmosphere of the book fair was international and creative. Firstly, based on the cultural resource in Beijing, the book fair was jointly held with the 13th Beijing International Book Festival. On the morning of August 26th, the 13th Beijing International Book Festival was launched on the theme of “Elegant Beijing, Reading City”. Yan Xiaohong, vice administrator of State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (APPRFT) presented the ceremony.

Secondly, to transform into a comprehensive book fair, spot sale was opened on this book fair. The book fair consisted of 5 pavilions: International Children’s Education Pavilion, International Pavilion, Sale Pavilion, Comprehensive Pavilion and Professional Pavilion, covering total area of 66000m2, to show about 270000 titles of publications home and abroad. International Children’s Education Pavilion was opened to enhance the copyright trade of international children’s book. The newly-set Sale Pavilion was the place for domestic publishing enterprises to marketing and sell books to libraries as well as retailing original publications, audio products and relative derivatives home and abroad. In Professional Pavilion, the exhibition area of the guest of honor of UAE was as large as 1000 m2. Various activities were held in different pavilions.

Thirdly, “One Belt One Road” Effect gained much attention. The countries and regions signed up for this book fair were as many as 82, increased by 5% that of last year, with 2302 publishers, increased by 6.8%, 1305 of which were overseas publishing organizations, increased by 6.2%. Among overseas exhibitors, those from countries on “One Belt One Road” were very active, who held many cultural communication activities. Delegates from over 20 countries on “One Belt One Road”, such as Russia, Saudi Arabia presented in the international pavilion. Four countries including Serbia, Romania, Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan presented the book fair for the first time. The quantity and scale of international famous publishing groups such as Penguin Press, Elsevier, and Springer was stably increasing.

Fourthly, on the forum designing, the content on the creative industry was newly add. As 2015 is the cultural communication year between China and Britain, China Publishing Group held “The Forum of Creative Industry in China and Britain---English Tea Talk”. Delegates from China and Britain discussed on the cross-field development of famous writers and publishers in movie and TV industry and the challenge and opportunity of the publishing industry in the cross-media era.
